DAY 1, March 1

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
FROM SCRIPT TO SCREEN with Christophe Lautrette 

Using personal illustrations, production designer Christophe Lautrette explains in detail how to illustrate a screenplay. He will discuss how to narrow down the style of a project by understanding the nature of the screenplay and finding its design. You will learn how Christophe builds a style guide that includes design, concept, surfacing, character design, and animation. He will also show you how to create strong compositions and/or portfolios in order to sell an idea. Finally, Christophe will explain how the composition, design and style are based on the nature of the film (and the director!) and what this means to you as an artist.

*This workshop is ideal for intermediate to advanced level students.

STORY MOMENTS with John Nevarez

 In this workshop, John will use his skills in storyboarding and visual development to navigate you through some of the core principles of storytelling, as demonstrated through a series of film clips. He will also talk about how changing to a filmmaker’s perspective can help strengthen your ability in visual storytelling.

4:30 PM – 6:30 PM

During this 2 hour portfolio review session, instructors will be reviewing artwork that has been submitted for a critique. All attending artists are encouraged to submit their portfolios, but we will be accepting only 5 applicants.

DAY 2, March 2

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This workshop is aimed at describing and showing the key techniques employed by Wesley Burt when approaching character design for games and film. Topics covered will include gesture drawing, sketching the head and face, taking a sketch to a finalized painting, research and reference materials, and making readable designs & illustrations in quick turnaround times.

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
LIVE DEMO with Claire Wendling

Claire will be doing a traditional style live demo, where she will show her process and provide tips as she goes along.

3:30 PM – 6:30 PM
CHARACTER DESIGN with Stephen Silver

Veteran TV and film industry character designer, Stephen Silver, created this workshop for artists who want to design their own lineup of interesting and compelling characters. He will cover the importance of the thumbnail process, how to achieve variety and clarity in design, maintain balance, gesturing, posing, and much more.

*This workshop is ideal for beginner to intermediate level artists.
